Cypress Mill

Standing 16 feet tall and 8 feet wide, this sculpture serves as the gateway to Cypress Mill, marking the community's entrance with a bold, sweeping gesture in aluminum. Two mirrored forms rise from a slatted metal ground plane, their curved, radiating arcs reaching upward and outward on either side of the entry sign.

The piece is inspired by a deconstructed windmill form — its sweeping blades broken apart and reassembled into an abstracted, architectural gesture. Rendered in bright red against the surrounding grey structural panels, the sculpture reads as a striking counterpoint to the low, horizontal lines of the entry monument, its radiating spokes suggesting motion caught mid-turn.

Mounted symmetrically on either side of the community sign, the two halves lean toward one another, framing the entrance and giving the gateway a sense of movement and welcome. Built from cut and welded aluminum plate, the sculpture is engineered to hold its dramatic cantilever and scale while withstanding the exposure of a permanent outdoor site.

The piece was designed in collaboration with artist Marc De Waele and completed in his memory — a lasting marker at the entrance to a new community of that collaboration.
