Contours

Contours is a wall-mounted steel sculpture installed behind the reception desk at TGH Brandon Medical Center, designed to transform a functional architectural moment into a quiet visual anchor for the space. Slender steel bands sweep across the wall in long, curving lines, standing off the surface just enough to cast soft shadows and read as three-dimensional contour lines drawn directly into the room.

The piece plays with the relationship between drawing and object — each band begins as a simple line, the kind that might appear in a sketch, then lifts subtly off the wall to gain depth, dimension, and a shifting presence as the viewer moves through the space. Some bands sweep in long, open arcs across the full width of the wall; others curl back on themselves into tight, topographic loops, echoing the layered lines of a map or a sectional drawing of land.

Rendered in a dark, matte steel finish against a pale wall, Contours reads as both minimal and dynamic — quiet enough to sit comfortably behind a reception desk, yet active enough to give the space a sense of movement and flow. The sculpture asks little of the viewer beyond a moment's attention, rewarding it with a form that continues to shift and resolve differently from every angle.
